Jenna Hua, RD, MPH, PhD
Million Marker
Jenna, the founder of Million Marker, established the organization in 2019 after completing a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Stanford University’s School of Medicine. Her research has focused on citizen science, health, and food consumption. Notably, Jenna used machine learning to analyze dietary patterns and studied arsenic exposure risks in adolescents in Kunming, China. She has held roles as a Project Manager at UNC’s Carolina Population Center, a Graduate Instructor at UC Berkeley, and a Project Manager at UCLA. Jenna holds a BS in Nutrition and an MPH and PhD in Environmental Health Sciences from UC Berkeley.

This session explores the latest features of the Clearya App, designed to help users identify and avoid toxic chemicals in personal care and beauty products. Through a live demonstration, we will analyze popular products, including those endorsed by celebrities like Cecred. Originating from a personal journey through breast cancer recovery, Clearya empowers individuals to make informed choices and reduce exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and other hazardous ingredients.

Amit Rosner, Co-founder of Clearya, holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Computational Biology and an MBA. Clearya is a free mobile app and browser extension that screens ingredient lists for potentially toxic chemicals while shopping online, alerts users based on scientific and regulatory standards, and suggests safer alternatives. Featured in HBO Max's documentary series "Not So Pretty," Clearya operates independently of any retailer or brand, funded by donations and free of ads. It also supports environmental health and justice organizations by providing data and insights to entities like the California EPA and Breast Cancer Prevention Partners.

Laura Gillan, MPH
Breast Cancer Prevention Partners
Laura Dobbs Gillan, Program & Policy Manager, Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP): Laura Gillan is a former environmental health scientist turned program and policy manager at Breast Cancer Prevention Partners (BCPP). At BCPP, Laura manages campaigns that influence federal, state, and corporate policies and laws to eliminate exposure to toxic chemicals linked to breast cancer and other serious diseases. Laura also manages the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics' Non-Toxic Black Beauty Project, which expands access to safer personal care products that Black women and girls can trust. Before joining BCPP, Laura worked as a toxicologist and conducted a variety of human health risk assessments to evaluate cancer risks and non-cancer health effects associated with environmental exposures at contaminated sites, residential homes, and commercial offices. Laura holds a Master of Public Health degree specializing in Environmental Health from Boston University.
